Top 5 things to do in Reading this week
1. Tribute Night: George Michael & Wham – Rising Sun Arts Centre
Come and celebrate the life and work of George Michael at 2017’s first tribute night at The Rising Sun Arts Centre – where local artists play their favourite tracks in honour of George Michael.
Unashamedly pop, Wham! furnished us with a string of catchy, funky, singalong singles during their short lifespan, after which George Michael stepped comfortably and seamlessly into his own highly successful solo career, maturing steadily into a more reflective and soulful elder statesman of pop.
Details: Friday 3 February at Rising Sun Arts Centre from 8pm. Free but donations welcome!
2. Putting the Band Back Together – South Street
Across the UK there are thousands of guitars propped up in bedrooms that haven’t been strummed in years. Voices only heard in the shower. Drum kits taking up too much space in garages. Well, it’s time to blow off the dust. We’re putting the band back together!
Part riotous gig, part tender storytelling, Ross Millard (The Futureheads), Maria Crocker and Alex Elliott reveal the epic emotions within people’s relationships with music.
Details: Thursday 2 February at South Street from 8pm. Tickets are £12, £8 for members.
Holdin’ Court return for a night of amazing hip-hop at their eight birthday celebrations this week.

Details: Friday 3 February at Readipop Studios from 8pm. Tickets are £6 in advance, £8 on the door.
